I'll be in Albuquerque on business and will extend 4 days for riding. I'm planning the first night in Taos, then Durango, Cortez, and back the ABQ. Southern CO is the target but I want to over-night in Taos.
Suggestions on routes and stops are appreciated. I have all day to get to Cortez from Durango.
I drive truck and have been thru that area many times over the years, the 4 corners area is great, Cortez and Moab, Ther is a Federal Park, I believe Monument National Park, that is a must. There is a state hwy, maybe Hwy 54 that runs from Santa Rosa, NM down to Los Cruces. It runs thru the desert and White Sands missile base and Area 52{Martians} all good stuff. Also go to this web site, www.touringdepot.com click on rides, may have some info there that will help your ride out.

Ride the Enchanted Circle that Taos is a part of, then ride west on U.S. 64 across NM (excellent) to just south of Durango, then head north on NM 511/CO 172. U.S. 160 is a fine ride and road back towards the east where you connect at Pagosa Springs for U.S. 84 back towards NM. Below is the map link. Did not include Cortez which is an easy hour west of Durango. Of course, if you have the time while in Durango, ride north on U.S. 550 - The San Juan Skyway/Million Dollar Highway, then return.
If you do the enchanted circle, at Eagles Nest go east an ride the Cimarron Canyon to Ute Park, then turn around go back to Eagles Nest and then to Red River.
Albuquerque I-40 east to 14 and north to Madrid (Turquoise Trail) on and continue to Santa Fe and up to Taos. While in Taos ride the Enchanted Circle (mention before). Go east on 64 from Taos over the Rio Grande gorge bridge to Chama up to Pagosa Springs CO and 160 to Durango. There are two narrow gauge trains one in Chama and one in Durango, check out both on the internet as you may need reservations.
Durango to Cortez the long way. San Juan Parkway Loop. Stopping in Mountain Village/ Telluride is great for lunch or dinner.
