I am trying to plan my first long trip from Boise, ID to Zions national park and back in about 4 or 5 days. I need to make a stop in SLC to meet with a few friends who are going to ride with me.
Does any body know a route that doesn't take I-15 all the way there and back? It is a sight seeng trip so back roads are good with me.
How about some tips on how to pack for a long motorcycle trip and any other tips?

After you leave SLC find Scipio or rt 50 take it till you get to UT 256 south and find UT 24, Take UT24 over to Torrey, Then jump on UT12 south Escalante over to rt 89 south to rt 9 to Zion. UT 12 is a great ride. As far as what to pack for 4 or 5 days dont overpack.
Taking US 93 south from Twin Falls isn't bad. If you don't mind being in the middle of nowhere. It's pretty desolate which means you will be by yourself which is what I like. You can still make good time (didn't see any highway patrol). Going through Zion is a great ride you will enjoy that alot.
Hey Lemhead, I know a great ride from Boise, Take hwy 20 at Mt Home to hwy 26 to Blackfoot, go to south of Pocatello to hwy 30. go to Bear Lake and on in to Evanston. Go south from Evanston on hwy 150 over mirror lake to Kamas. It don't get any better!!!!
Put in 462 miles today. Boise-> Twinfalls -> Wells, NV -> Wendover, NV -> Layton, UT
I am going to post up for a few days here with my parents and wait for this damn severe weather to pass through. Then head for Southern utah parks on Friday! Most fun I've had in a long time!
