Hey everyone, new to the forum and new to the Harley world last August. I am from Saskatchewan Canada, I am heading down to Columbus Ohio for a two week rip! Just wondering if there are any hidden secrets about taking a long road trip on a bike? As of now I am heading there by myself and my wife is flying so she will take most off my clothes that I need when I get there. Any good riding highways or attractions or scenery that I should know of??? Any others suggestions would be great!! Thanks guys and gals!!
I don't know what route you are planning but you might want to consider going through Milwaukee (you can stop and see some engines being assembled). From there you can skip driving through Chicago and take the ferry across Lake Michigan to Muskegon.
I would do the #1 East to Sault ste Marie, then south through Michigan to Columbus. A good return route would be up the West side of Lake Michigan through Milwaukee and Green Bay, making your way to Duluth. Then across Northern Minnesota, crossing back into Canada at Warroad, Minnesota. Then through Winnipeg home.
Anything south of these routes is just endless prairies all the way.
I am heading out may 13th, I plan on riding the whole way but depending on Saskatchewan weather I might have to trailer down to warmer weather..... I plan on taking 5 days to get there for our concert weekend to start, then it will be a slower 7 day ride on the way home due to a little to much indulging in millers.. I am not sure of my route at all yet, besides that I don't want to rush past any attractions. Want to camp a couple nights once I get to the warm weather. I reall like Roy d's idea about the ferry. I will definitely be planning that. I will be crossing the border at north portal just south of Winnipeg Manitoba. I find it is the smoothest crossing here, as long as I cover my tattoos..... Thanks for the help everyone, keep it coming if U have any more ideas or suggestions. And if your up for it make it out to rock on the range and crew stadium Columbus ! It's a party.
