Good luck finding a Dublin Dr. Pepper. They closed the bottling company in Dublin a year ago or so and Dublin bottled DP sold like hotcakes. If you find some, cherish it.

Hwy 281 is good, but when you get to Stephenville follow Hwy 377 south to Comanche. Then get on Hwy 16 all the way to San Antonio. Hwy 16 is a great ride. It's a longer route but worth it.
Depending on your timing you can have lunch either at the Hard 8 BBQ in Stepenville or Cooper's BBQ in Llano. Both are pretty good.
Highway 16 is rather dull but there is a strange cemetery just south of Comanche! i have done the route a time or 2. South of LLano it gets a little better and the riding around fredricksburg is out right fantastic.
Take 67 down to Glen Rose then hit 281 south. there is a neat little hamburger joint in Lampassas...
