I'll be heading to Glacier Park, Red Lodge, Beartooth and Chief Joe this summer with my son. He can get away in late July or late Aug. Which would be the better time to go???
Jock, Imo, I always go on vacation in late Aug. early Sept. less people, (kids are back in school or getting ready to) cheaper rooms (sometimes) weather is usually good (not real Hot but still nice) been in the area your talking about a few times at that time of the year and weather was great. I usually plan for 2 or 3 destinations and just before I leave check the 10 day forecast and that helps make up my mind on where to go! This year it's Yoesmite, Wa.or Or., or Co. and N.M. You and your son have a great trip!
I'd say late August for the same reasons as Moto Mike....kids are heading back to school resulting in fewer 4-wheel tourists out there. Weather isn't much different between the 2 periods...maybe late August is a touch cooler. Beautiful time of the year in the northern Rockies. Enjoy that time with your son.
I've ridden all over the Rockies usually in late August, early Sept. Generally always have good weather, and like said above, kids are back in school so less traffic.
