My wife and I just rode the Talimena few weeks ago from Central TX (Ft Hood) , we stayed in Mena at the Limetree Inn. It's a little dated but clean and the Friday night buffet was really good.
Go across the Skyway in the afternoon. If you ride in the morning you may be fogged in and not see anything!

Can't say enough great things about Hootie Creek House Bed and Breakfast in Talihina. Small, quiet, secure, 6 miles from entrance to Talimena Byway. Call and speak with Essex or Carolyn, great people.
