Planning to ride Pennsylvania Route 6 from Port Jervis to the Ohio State line in the August-September timeline. Can anyone provide information on must see venues (attractions, Restaurants, Bars, Camping sites, recommended hotels, etc.) along the route.
Pa Grand Canyon is a good stop just a few miles off of route 6, there is bar at the turn off to the west rim that's pretty good I think it's called the burnin barrel. The Kinzua railroad brige is another stop it's not there anymore but they did put an observation deck it's worth seeing, then there is a bar and restaurant at the Kinzua Marina on the water that's a nice place for lunch but that is off of rt 59 not 6. Plenty of good riding out that way if you have time take 872 south to 120 then 155 into bennezette their is a visitors center for the Pa Elk if you are into the wildlife it's a nice ride.
Kinzua Bridge. part of it was blown down by tornado. pretty cool to see. stop at *** Harley Davidson out by Pa grand canyon. very nice shop.you will enjoy the ride Pa.6 is a very nice ride.
Ox Yoke motel in Galeton. It's biker owned and has it's own bar and restaurant. Small stream behind motel with area for camping. Fire pits there also with free wood.
If you will be in that area 2nd weekend in September there is a small bike event called "Thunder On The Strip" at Geneva on the Lake in Ohio, not far from the border. The lake (Erie) front strip is a throwback town with arcades , pizza parlors, bars, a couple good restaurants, mostly a lot of fun with plenty of free entertainment.
Like mention check Grand Canyon of PA, pretty area. We stayed in Wellsboro, nice little town with good food and a few bars all within walking distance of hotels. Geezer glide will lead you in the right direction, just do a seach for Wellsboro and you will find plenty of ideas.
If you're going to visit the PA Grand Canyon, I would suggest you don't go too early in the morning. The canyon may be filled up with fog, and you won't be able to see anything!
If staying in Wellsboro, I like The Canyon motel. For breakfast, try Harland's Restaurant only a couple of blocks from The Canyon. The Wellsboro Diner is kind of over-rated, food wise.
If you're heading for Kinzua Bridge Park, take route 59 west at Smethport, instead of turning left on 6. Go a few miles and watch for Lindholm Rd (state road 3011) on the left. Follow that a few miles to Kinzua Bridge State Park. It's still worth seeing although only about 1/3 of the bridge is still standing.
You might then consider going back to Rt 59, and then going west through the Allegheny National Forest -- 59 will rejoin Rt. 6 just before Warren.
