You can see most of the lake in McCall right there in town. It is not paved all the way around like you mentioned earlier. Garden City has several places to have a drink and stay. It is just a suburb of Boise so if you don't find what you're looking for there it is in between Eagle and Boise so a short drive to somewhere.
It will be a bit chilly when you get up and start (if you are an early riser). Watch for deer in the mountains when it starts to get a bit later. We've got them everywhere here, even right downtown in Boise. Near McCall on the highways they are usually around in force.
I plan on staying in Garden Valley. Garden City is the suburb of Boise. Not a very big town up by Burke is Garden Valley. Ya should be able to see the lake fine at McCall and than wrap around to the west. Kind of worried about finding lodging around Alpine cuz I do not want to go into Jackson and this will be a long day from Lusk Wy. Any other hotels and walking distance bars I should know of
