My favorite part of riding a motorcycle is the things you don't plan for. Seeing a new roads curves, hill or mountain views, smelling the woods or a bakery, roadside attractions you never heard of.

For those who rush through the Midwest on Interstates you miss a lot of good people and sites. Like The High Ground in Neillsville, WI.

Or the same day we stopped at the Leinenkugel brewery in Chippewa Falls. A blast. Both stops were unplanned, just spontaneous in small towns.

So I like to do 300-350 miles/ day on 2 lane. I do interstates, but they all look the same. I did a 530 mile day/2up last year on mostly 2 lane, and I was spacing on deer by the end of the day.

There's never enough time to see all there is to see. Coast to coast is definitely doable, but, as already noted, you will miss a lot.

I would pick some "must-see's" like the Wheels through Time motorcycle Museum, and whatever kind of roads you like to ride...twisties, sweepers, mountain, whatever, and then plan a two week trip around that.

This last summer, Mary and I went up to the Arctic Circle and back. We stopped and visited family along the way. Also stopped and did work along the way. But we took our time and were never rushed. The only long mile days were boring flatlands that we churned out the miles on. We averaged 350 miles a day during the trip...but we had a few 200 mile days and a few 800 mile days.

Here's the link to the ride report with lots of pics-

I say, go do the ride! It's all in what you make it. Some may 700 mile days is to much to do in a day, I say I can do 700 mile day with no issues. What the worse that can happen, you don't see everything, tell everyone they were right? Maybe you come back and tell everyone they were wrong! And if you do come through Omaha, let me know and maybe we can get together for a lunch or dinner. Good luck!

I discussed it with my buddy and he states he'd rather do 4,000 miles or so on the east coast. Being from Cali, he hasn't had the opportunity to ride this area. We are gonna meet in Nashville as planned, ride the Dragon, Moonshiner 28, BRP, Skyline Dr, quick stop over in NJ. On to Maine, NH, Niagara Falls, York, PA, Gettysburg, Flight 93 Memorial then back to Nashville

Back to back to back 12/14 hour days. My kind of thing. My methods. Have a really good breakfast. Hydrate like crazy, A ltr an hour. Stop every 2 hrs for Gas or a quick break. Use a windshield. Wear a jacket and chaps so the wind doesn't beat you up. Here is my trick to get the last 3 hours in. I stop at MacDonalds and have 2 cheeseburgers for the calcium, protein and carbohydrates, two chocolate milk as a recovery drink (,this IS a work out) and an apple pie for the sugar hit. (And there tasty). And an apple and a banana.

This gives me 3 hours of energy, which keeps me sharp on the bike, just when your getting lazy.

Well I took 2 weeks to go one way from NC to CA. I guess you could go there and back in 2 weeks but sounds like a lot of highway riding and rushing

If I drank a liter of water every hour, I would be stopping every fifteen minutes to pee. Age has its limitations.
