Default 2 weeks for coast to coast?

I am planning a coast to coast from NJ to CA and back. Route is gonna be from NJ to Nashville where I'll meet up with my buddy who is joining me. We will take 40 across to Los Angeles area and pick up the PCH up to San Francisco. From San Fran, I'm gonna make my way to US 50 across Nevada. From there pick up 80 heading east. From Iowa we are gonna head back to Nashville. I'll head home from Nashville. Ok...things to see along that route? And is two weeks enough time to do this comfortably? I've mapped it and it seems that as long as we average 500 miles per day (some more but some less) that it is very doable. Any advice?

I ain't no expert, but I have looked at doing Highway 1 and this would be my recommendation. Pick up Highway 1 well above Los Angles to avoid traffic. Might as well hit Yosemite while your in the area. On I-40, two guys could crank out 600 miles a day without a problem.

Also, is there anything to avoid? I'd love to ride the small section of 66 that remains. We wanna see the Grand Canyon. US 50 is a must for us... But certainly open to suggestions

I did coast to coast, via us50 with my son in 2008. It took us about 17 days. 500 a day for 14 days straight is a lot. May not leave you much time to take in sights, or allow for break down, like that ever happens. Just take your time and enjoy. One of the problems we faced is we were always in a hurry to get to the next point. Once we got there we didn't know why. Enjoy

I figure that there is more that we wanna see along the southern route which is gonna leave us taking more time going west than coming east. Coming home I don't mind pumping out longer days

When are you doing this trip? I'd say skip 80, take 50 across UT, CO and make your way back to Tn. If you take 80 across Ne and Ia, you get alot of wind and see alot of corn. Trust me, I live in Ne.
I am originally from Nv and 50 is a road if you have to do atleast once.

Three of us did 7700 miles in 12 days. We had no real plans and no reservations. Live in PA and we busted *** to Steamboat Springs, CO (1680 miles) in 2 days. Then our next few nights were spent in Reno, San Fran (after visiting the Monterrey Peninsula) and Eureka where I cracked a head pipe on Hwy 1 and we found a welder on a Sunday to fix me up.

Then onto my brothers place in Kennewick, WA (600+ miles). Spent 2 days there, had the bikes serviced at ridiculous prices. Next stop Jackson Hole, WY and then on to Sturgis for 2 days. We completed the mission by hitting Des Moine, IA and our last day was near 900 mile to home.

Don't do 80 or 70 unless you're getting a nickel for every fence post you see!

Haha... I did 70 across and home from Denver... Boring drive. I am thinking 80 back just because there's not much I want to see other than 50 on the way home

Not what you want to hear, but here goes anyway. Can it be done? Sure. Should you? Not from my standpoint.

Cut your mileage and luggage in half. See more, ride less, enjoy the trip.
