Planning a trip. Need advice on Montana & Wyoming.
I'm try to plan a trip mid to late July. Right now I am planning on leaving Kansas on Saturday, July 19th and get back home on Saturday, July 26th. Take a look at the roads I plan on riding and let me know if I should drop something to ride something better. From what I have planned so far, I still have a day to fill (that Wednesday). I have done the rides around Deadwood before and am actually going there again this July 4th. Here is what I have planned so far.
Sat July 19th
-Leave KS for Deadwood, SD (12 Hrs riding)
Sun July 20th
-Leave Deadwood for Cody, WY (About 7 Hrs according to Google Maps)
Mon July 21st
-Ride Beartooth Pass & Chief Joseph Hwy
What about adding Yellowstone? You will ride through the Bighorns to get to Cody and back. Take 14/14A one way and 16 back.
I have been considering Yellowstone but don't really want to deal with the traffic. But I guess if I want to see it sometime, and I do, then I'll just have to deal with it.
Cody is a great town. If you wanted a down day, you could just spend it there. I love the Buffalo Bill museum. If you do not want to do Yellowstone, Little Big Horn National battlefield is not far.
We did Michigan to Sturgis, the Bighorns, then Yellowstone.......Yellowstone was the best part of the trip.....make sure and hit the Custard Nature Loop, hear Sturgis.

I think I will add Little Big Horn to the list as well as Yellowstone.

I'm gonna go ahead and do Yellowstone I think. I've been to Custer State Park and will be doing it again this year. Quite a sight seeing all the Buffalo roaming around.
Can someone tell me where Beartooth Pass actually ends. I am planning on starting up in Red Lodge, MT. Would it be good to get off on Chief Joseph Hwy (296) and call it good or is there more to see if you keep going?

If you start in Red Lodge and go south on Hwy 212 you'll go over Beartooth Pass before reaching Hwy 296 south which is the Chief Joseph Highway.
