not looking for pity... I guess. Kind of wondering other options more of a day ride from north AR. Were planning 2 weekends and a full week, 9 days, but can't clear that much vac a time. Should have got on the calendar sooner. 4 days travel only leaves about 3 days out there so we opted to go another time
So.. smokies? Austin/san Antone area (will be hot)? Family along so we are more nat feature kind of folks than hang out in a city. Ideas?
I'd go with the smokies...you are close enough to make it there in one day. Then spend the entire few days you are there exploring and riding the various roads. The moonshiner, BRP, dragon...etc. Some great bbq in Chattanooga also

Smokies no question. Wish I lived as close as you. I just went there took 3 days down and came back in 2 600+ miles days. Rode around there for 6 days IT IS AWESOME! BRP, Moonshiner and Hellbender, Rattlesnake, Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, the list goes ON and ON and ON. Don't hesitate, DO IT!
Agree with all the above posts on the roads. Be sure to check out the southern part of the Moonshiner 28 just south of Franklin NC, some absolutely beautiful waterfalls.
If you're looking for a place to stay, check out the Two Wheel Inn just outside Robbinsville NC. Robbinsville is smack dab in the middle of most of the mentions roads. The Two Wheel Inn is not a Hilton, but it's clean and comfortable and each room has it's own 6x12 garage, with door, for your scoot..and reasonably priced.
I was really hoping for some other spot suggests... but am trying to talk the financial advisor into a trip to ten/nc. Yet more obstacles have risen that solidified no out west trip. Maybe next year....
thanks for the feedback. Two wheel inn looks interesting
better check the mileage. from n ark, wouldn't it be just as far to the smokies as it is to co? w/limited time, wouldn't the ozarks provide enough interesting travel in your own back yard until you can pull together enough time for the big trip? we've done the dragon, moonshiner, cherohala, etc. as well as sw co and they're both awesome areas but they're both at least a day's ride from your neck of the woods.
Good points Mr O. But Co is 17+ hours... Durango area anyway. Smokies are only 10ish. Thanks for the post
Some backyard touring may be the thing this year. We often get over into the Ozarks for the day, but have been looking at a 3 or 4 day trip as well, play tourist a while.
Still more has popped up to interfere. Responsibility...bleh!
After a meeting this morning I took the scenic route home. 150 miles in the hills including a road I have rarely traveled and never biked in my 20 years up here. Some great roads, scenery and overlooks. Yep, I think some redos are in order for this vacation. They are all new roads since I'm on a new tome bike right??
Took some phone pics, but can't get them in the computer. over 200 miles in all
