Read my post right before yours. I gave the same answer on the CVO forum. Made it a lot easier to get it back together so I think it will also help to take it apart.

Many thanks OBB .........that did the trick ! Turns out the piece needs to be lifted upwards before it'll slide out ....or back in as you pointed out.

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread. Was helping a buddy adjust the handlebars on his '16 CVO RG the other day and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove the ignition switch.

Done it many times on the older bikes with the little pin under the switch.

CVO's are actually easier, you don't even need to remove the switch!

It really isn't even a switch. Just a fork lock. New CVO Ultras don't have an ignition switch because of the power locks.

Somewhat related, I was at service one day and noticed the service writer trying to turn my fork lock switch to turn the bike on. Had to chuckle a bit at how little he knew about the CVO's. As OBB mentioned the little plastic tab on the bottom of the switch cover is very delicate. I bent mine slightly removing for adjusting the bars but was able to bend it back into position without breaking it.

On the 15/16 RGU CVO's you don't need to remove the fork lock switch to get to the bars.

In order to get that horseshoe piece back in place, it sure would be nice to pull the fork lock! I can tell I'm going to break that POS putting it back on. Has anyone figured out how to remove the lock?

You can leave the cluster split in two pieces and it gives you some wiggle room.
