Default Passing/Turn Signal Lights

Hi guys, I recently acquired a 2003 CVO Road King (My first Harley) and need some advice on Passing Lights and Turn Signal Lights. This Model has the Trun Signal Lights mounted on the Handlebars and does not have any addittional passing lights. I would very much like to add some passing lights similar to those found on the non-CVO models of that year, which includes turn signal lights just under the main headlight. I would like to keep the handlebar mounted signal lights and have them work in tandem with the addional ones on the lights bar. I am also thinking of "upgrading" to some LED lights. How difficult a task would this be? What additional parts/hardware would I need? Could this be a DIY project?
Thanks!!

Here are some stock photos of the same model just to show the lights locations.

I assume I will have to find a lights bar like this to fit on my model:

Ultimately, I would like it to look like this:

Quick question: Would the passing/signal lights bar from a 1998 Road King fit on my 2003 CVO RK?

I know you want to make it look like a traditional rk but you bought one of the all time classic cvo’s Harley has ever made. Why mess it up?

I know exactly what you mean, but since the bike has already been repainted (by the previous owner), a lot of the 'classic" uniqueness has, unfortunately, been removed. I also wanted to improve night time visibility so I thought adding a lights bar with passinlg lamps would accomplish that. Had the bike been all original, I would definitely want to keep it that way.

So, I have added the Passing Lights, Fork-Mounted Wind Deflectors and Engine Guard (among other things). Here are before and after pictures.

I much prefer the "after" look. My next step is to upgrade the lights to LEDs. On that front, I have two options:

(1) Insert some Morimoto 2stroke 3.0 LED Bulbs in the existing housings of both the Headlight and the Passing Lights: https://www.morimotohid.com/morimoto...lbs?quantity=1

(2) Install this Eagle Lights Kit: https://www.eaglelights.com/products...9f592048&_ss=r

The prices for the Bare Bulbs and the Eagle Lights Kit are about the same (I will need three bulbs). What do you guys think about these options? In terms of looks, the Eagle Lights win every time, but I was wondering which option would be more effective in terms of real-world performance???.

In addition to the above, I would like to retain all four signal lights; the two mounted on the Handle Bar as well as the two attached to the Passlng Lights bar. Is it possible to have two pairs of active signal lights? I would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

Regard,
Rick

PS: Those passing lights and signal lights have not been hooked up as yet, hence the odd looking black wire around and between the fork.

I like the after photo as well.

As for wiring up the bulbs together, all you'd need to do is find the supply wire for each side (either in the headlight bucket or under the tank) and wire them in. A wiring schematic is your friend for this. I did a little bit of a re-wire on my 2005 Springer. Not exactly the same as what you are doing, but it might give you an idea of what's going on under the tank and such.

Good luck with the conversion. You're well on your way to making the bike more to your liking, and that's all that matters!

Hi Rick,

Our passing lights will work with that kit and will allow you to either wire them into the lighting harness or us the provided H9/H11 harness and they come with a lifetime warranty as we stand behind all our products.

As far as your other question, I believe you can have both running in your set up and I think Tcrafty hits the nail on the head with his reply. Let us know if you need help or have any other questions.

Thank you
Jared

Thanks, Tcrafty, for your comments and especially for the link to the wiring diagram. I intend to make good use of it.

Thank you, Jared, glad to know that it's possible to accomplish my desired setup with the eagle lights kit. I am very comfortable doing most of my own wrenching, but wiring/lighting intimidates me. I have to do some studying and, hopefully, become confident enough to tackle this project. I think I will go with the Eagle Kit. One question: With dual front signal lights, would I need a load equalizer?

Sorry for my delayed response. If you are upgrading them both to LEDs you would need an equalizer to regulate the flashing speed. If you need any help please feel free to call us or email us.

Thank you
