Default 2008 serk

I posted a question in the touring section about a used 2008 SERK my dealer has for sale. The bike looks to be in excellent condition with only 8000 miles and seems to have been well cared for. I am seriously considering buying, but I am getting a lot of comments regarding problems with the 07 and 08 110 motor. Apparently the moco refers to it as a head gasket issue, but some posters have suggested it is really much more than that.

I am going to demo the bike tomorrow and plan to ask for any service records the dealer may have. If all recall work has been completed and the bike runs ok, should I assume all is well, or have these motors continued to be problemmatic even after the recall work is completed?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Some of the 07 and early 08 110" motors had a problem with the cylinder liner "moving" which cause the head gasket to leak. Mine did so around 3700 miles. Fewer still had this problem more than once. However, the cylinder liner issue was "remedied" with a new head gasket.

It also appears better quality control has corrected the cylinder liner issue. I base this assumption on the lack of postings from individuals having this problem with the 09 - later motors.

I still have my 08 SERK with a 117 motor w/ Axtell cylinders. I was able to cut a deal with the dealer when replacing the cylinders / warranty work. She is still my favorite scooter. FWIW

If the recall work has been done and the you like the bike, buy it and ride it with no worries....
