on my 12 CVO, i changed the head pipe and the muffler and added a tuner. All total you have at least another $1000 to $2000 to spend if you want to reduce the heat. Then be prepared for mid 30's gas mileage.
Ummmm if you are getting mid 30's...how do I say this...you need a different person tuning your bike. I did a D&D 2-1 system and had a TTS Mastertune used for the dyno. I average 40 mpg. 37-39 around town and on the super slab with cruise 42+. If I can get non-ethanol gas I can get 3-5 extra mpg.
Don't know about others but your mpg seems a bit low.
I do not have the heat issue but I started on a 96, then a 103, now a 110 and to be honest I feel a little difference in heat but nothing that roast my leg unless the temps are over 95 plus. In that case the only thing to do with an air cooled engine is to ride as slow traffic isn't good for the bike. If you find yourself in traffic and at idle a lot in the heat roll the throttle forward to deactivate the rear cylinder that helps too. I kept the stock headers and ecm and get 40 plus mpg on the highway. And as far as people saying "but", well I just chalk that up to jealousy. When I bought my CVO I bought it for myself and not for everyone else to gawk at. I was doing the upgrades a little at a time and realized after 3k and 10 more to go that the CVO was a bargain. I still do upgrades but the list has shrunk to a few items and the fact that it is stock on the CVO keeps the value of the bike a little higher than a stock or limited would. I have no plans for a trade in "but" if I do it will net me more than the other models.
Shaking my head now. Spent the cost of 2 bikes on this one. I expect better since it costs as much as a Mercedes Benz. Luckily since I was pissed today about bugs, the service department decided to waive the 1000 mile service to keep me happy. I am using Syn3 as well as getting a copy of the checklist myself. For that kind of money....things just need to be done right! I will not accept the cutting of any corners!
Are you guys smelling what I'm stepping in????
Great reply, just what I was looking for, and thanks. I did the deed yesterday, before I saw your reply, and ended up with the 660 that came with the bike. I was going to check with their parts guy and make the swap, but he was busy, they were trying to get me to sign papers and all I really wanted to do was get on the road, as it was getting late and it was a long ride back so just as well I guess.
The weather was threatening as we road back, big rain clouds and it looked like we might get a little damp, (forgot to bring rain gear, well actually, my plan was to have them load the bike in the truck and we would drive her home, anyway, plans changed...) I turned on the WX and listened and dodged raindrops, plugged in the zumo at a rest stop halfway back and it seemed to work well for the ride home, just now reading the manual.
I have another question regarding the Bluetooth connection to the phone, if someone calls will I be able to talk and listen through the HK headset hookup? I haven't found any reference to that setup anywhere. It would have been great to be able to communicate with my better half last night as she was driving the truck.
As long as the GPS audio output is connected to the radio's AUX input and you have the HD Bomm you will be able to make and take phone calls while riding. The bike has a NIM factory installed and the audio output from the GPS is now connected to it. You will need to split the audio output from the GPS so that it feeds both the NIM and the AUX input on the radio.
this web site has all the information and part numbers on how to accomplish this. Without the HD Bomm forget about making and taking phone calls while riding.
Has anyone added the speakers to the lowers of this bike? If so how do they sound and was it worth it? I don't plan on doing many mods, maybe a trim ring here and there but not too much. As a followup, after I took the bike to have the Ipod connection fixed, it was exactly as i had said before....the cable was bad. My other issue was that the Ipod is a PITA to use, so I connected an older 8G unit and it works like a charm. I threw the other one in the drawer. Can't ride much here in sunny Florida because it rains everyday. I don't mind rain every now and then, but it is easy to get killed when someone hydroplanes and takes you out. 2 bikers killed this week alone because of out of control cagers hydroplaning.
