I have had the very same thing happen to me. Behind the head light there is a connector that connects the white wire from the frame harness to the white wire on that goes to the ignition starter on the right handle bar. When you lose connection you lose power to ignition and starter.
Mine has failed me twice the first time it was burnt from over heating the second it lost conductivity momentarily.
I soldered and heat shrunk it this last time.
Actually the white wire comes from the right housing Kill Switch.
The Grey wire goes to the housing from the keyswitch...Stock.

That means I don't have it fixed, crap. I bet it is the kill switch then
If it is aftermarket? Probably...if O.E. only maybe. Most common is pinched wire when assembling the [handlebar] switch housing sometimes shorting to ground, sometimes cutting the wire inside the Insulation.
Some care, and some bit of Dexterity are required...along with Patience....
