I'm looking for a replacement for my aftermarket rear wheel, and would like to go back to the 40 spoke style 16" wheel.
I can't seem to find anything specific for it, but I see a lot 73'-up listings. My HD parts manual lists the rear wheel assembly as 40980-73 with fitment for '73-'80, but nothing specifically for the '71-72.
Does anyone know if there is a major difference between the '73 and up and the '71-72 wheels? I think there both 16 x 3. Thanks.

Same rear wheel used on 1972 and earlier (at least to 1966) big twins.
Keep in mind FX stands for,
F=FLH
X= XLCH.
From the neck back is FLH, front end XLCH.

As stated already, it's just a mid-star wheel, the same as late 60's-72 FL. Also know that the correct rear hoop is not a safety bead.
I think those were a Ness Item...I have one, but don't really remember where I got it, as It was long ago.
Definitely Not Stock. Stock would have been strutted and 3 piece side pieces.
