I wanted to pull off the cam cover and inspect everything before I put the heads and push-rods back on the cylinders. But I'll be damned if that sob will come off. I've removed the ignition plate and the bolt holding the advance on as well as the advance. I have the cam cover separated from the gasket and it's even pulled out about 1-2mm from the cases, but I can't get it off.
Am I missing something? There is nothing else that could be holding that thing on there other than the cam in the bushing?
A home made puller usually does the trick. I made one form an old aftermarket thick point cover with a 3/8 inch bolt threaded into it. screwed it into the cover and turned the bolt. It pushes on the cam and keeps it from coming forward with the cover. I put a brass shell case over the bolt to keep it from hurting the cam. It shouldn't take much force for it to come off.
Yea, it should still come off though. My bad on that one... I can't think of anything that would make it hang up Sept for the cam and cam bushing.. maybe you should take the lifters and blocks out, this way if it does come out and with the cam as one piece you might not damage anything...
You have to pull the lifters upward or the rollers will catch on the came lobes if the cam is trying to come out with the cover. Push in on the cam while working the cover it should come loose.

This totally makes send now. I haven't been in the garage since then, but I have a feeling the rollers were catching. Glad I never tried forcing anything. I have a feeling it will come out nice and easy now mas long as I'm pushing in on the cam so it doesn't come out with the cover.
