Default chopped cam cover question

I just got around to chopping my cam cover. I read somewhere that you need to plug the hole on the bottom of the freshly cut cam cover. Wasn't there a hole in the original cam cover, or was that, too, plugged? What is the significance of that hole? Should I just tap in some threads? Are there any issues with using a stainless steel screw into aluminum?

Thanks. I know that is a lot of questions about one small hole.

Well when it comes to the cam cover Ive never looked them but as far as the hole goes if it does need to be plugged taping it and using a stainless screw or bolt shouldnt be an issue. just remember that aluminum is a soft metal and gut en tight isnt the torque you want to use. otherwise youll just have to pull it out of a stripped hole and retap it. its a pain in the *** but helicoil kits can be used as well.
