Default 1976 FLH Neutral Light Question

Hey guys. I was doing some work on my motorcycle this morning and ran into a bit of jam. When I bought the bike the previous owner told me the neutral light wasn't working, but once I got it home, I found out that it was functioning correctly, but only when the highbeam switch was on. So I took it apart, and sure enough, the positive line to the light was wired in with the highbeam light on the dash. I have the wiring diagram, but my comprehension skills aren't so great. Does anyone know the correct way to wire it? Is there a positive line off the ignition switch I can patch it into?

Thanks.

Neutral light on your dash has two wires coming out, one white and one orange. The white wire comes out and goes in two directions... a white wire that connects to the stop switch on your handlebar and a white wire that is connected to the bottom of your coil. The orange wire is connected to a black wire that goes to your neutral light switch.

This is all assuming you are running the original wiriin harness.

Any terminal that is hot when the switch is on will work...the neutral switch is the ground.

The wiring diagram for that bike is pretty simple to read. Have an enlarged copy made out of the manual and glue it to a piece of cardboard. Then just take your time and look for the right wire and make sure it goes where the diagram says. If the bike still has the original wiring harness, you won't have any trouble. There should be a table on the diagram that tells you the abbreviation for each color as well.

No...only when the switch is on, AND the bike is in neutral...just like the factory wiring
