On my 80 iron head I struggled to get it to run right with the points. i installed an ultima electronic ignition with a new coil and it has run great ever since. But i dont have much experience with points to be honest.
the 80 ironhead came factory with electronic ignition but aparently most trashed it for points
I have run both for many years - Dyna S - cheap - reliable - set it and go - when setting up points - it is getting harder and harder to find good breaker cams for your advance unit - same is true for advance units - lot of junk out there - in my experience - the e-units seem to be a little more forgiving with your advance units - wet conditions dont threaten my rides - with my stroker - the e-setup was MUCH better for sure - I'd move everything to Dyna S if I could but I cant bring myself to go to a mallory distributor for my 48 chop
