Default 1972 FLH rear wheel bearing spacer

Just bought a 1972 FLH. I am replacing the tires and thought I would check the bearings. I noticed the rear wheel had no spacer in between the 2 left side bearings and the right side bearing. I purchased a wheel hub rebuild kit from " you will have to rework everything" Teds Vtwin. Well low and behold, the spacer is too long, and spacer ID is too small (axle will not go through). What a suprize. Does anyone know, or do you have a spare you can measure, to let me know what the length is. I can fix it just need some sizes with out have to take the front wheel off. Thanks, Mitch

you have Mid star hubs the front takes one bearing and the rear has 2 bearings

I will look tomorrow I do not know if I have a mid star hub/wheel assembly

but I might have the spacer how long is yours measured with a dial caliper as I have a bag of maybe 50 different ones

Default Spacer Length

I did some measuring last night. I locked the brake down so the wheel would not move. Removed the axle and right side bearing, drove the two left side bearings so the inner race was hard against the right side axle sleeve (item 24), see the top section of the attached image. in the parts book. Re-installed the right side bearing and measured (with vernier calipers (depth) the distance from the inner left side race to the outer right side race (3.945). I then subtracted the inner race thickness (0.718 inch). If my reasoning is correct the spacer should be 3.227. Plus a little to make sure the inner races are compressed when I install the right side components bearing (44), spacer (13), oil seal (14), and Lock-nut (27). The spacer that came in the kit is 3.360 long. According to the manual the front and rear wheels are the same. I measured the spacer from the front wheel and it checks 3.350. I tried assembling the rear wheel with this spacer and it would not go together.

Hey Mitch,

wondering if if you ever figured out a solution to your problem. I’m having the same issue building mine. Same kit and everything and the spacer ID is too small. Micrometer reads .067 on spacer ID and the same on the axle.

I think y'all are missing the point here... Teddy has parts that do Not Fit... Get parts that Do Fit...

and...there is No One size fits all on any wheel bearing spacers... RTFM

No... they vary by the Fitment... Or... slap er together and go... your choice...
Any more than a Newer Shovel/Evo era wheel spacer is "one size fits all"
I have no Idea how one could specify a spacer for the Bearings in a Hub...other than getting a set like ya do on the left side of the engine cases... different application...and much more expensive...
Think about what you are trying to accomplish!!!!
