I brought home a 1981 FLT last weekend and am trying to put together a to do list. She rides great, stops as she should, and doesn't leak (much). Manuals are ordered.
I am thinking:
Change engine and trans oil ( don't think primary takes its own)
Clean/ replace air filter
Adjust idle ( not sure, it was a daily rider so it must be good, but idles at about 700-800 RPM and almost dies)
Other than that I don't really want to mess with much until Michigan winter sets in.
Am I missing anything?
I would look at the date code on the tires...check out the brake fluid and make sure it at least looks good...and if it still has the enclosed chain...check the oil in that.
As Tom84fxst said , also on my '80 I had ground problems -- add extra cables to starter housing and frame
If it's a 5spd check for a trans vent as '80 was the 1st year for 5spd and H-D left off a vent Duhhh a leak -- if no vent leave dipstick nut finger loose or get a fiber washer and cut 1/4 inch out of it and tighten down
