ok = the oil pressure gauge needs a generator < they called it back in the day to register the pounds as pressure using it as a ground / resister < potentiometer - remember this is yester year stuff

Had to GOOGLE that one, thanks all as always for my continuing education:

A potentiometer is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider. If only two terminals are used, one end and the wiper, it acts as a variable resistor or rheostat.

That would be cool .

And potentiometers are still currently in use in today's bikes. They are used in the TPS, throttle position sensor...
