Another newbie question on my fxe build...I switched my handle bars and risers out for a j& p cycles riser and a set of swap meet z bars. The risers are 1 in tall and non threaded so they take a hex nut from the inside. I attempted to install them and one the OEM bolt isn't long enough so I've been attempting different lengths, (stock is 2 3/4) 3 is just threading in and 3.5 is way too long (3 1/4 seems like the next logical size but I can't find it at my local hardware store). My other concern is the top clamp isn't closing all the way, there is a gap and I'm not sure if this is normal or I should ditch the riser for a different type such as a threaded riser.
I'll post pics tonight or tomorrow, if anyone has a suggestion on a good set of risers I'm definitely interested if that is the root of the problem.
I moved the bars around a little and yes that **** weld definitely was in the way, I got the fronts in and the backs a small gap. I'm going to get larger bolts for the trees and cut them to size if need be. Anyone got suggestions of threads to help me clean up the wiring? Could I cut out some holes in the bars to internally wire or will that screw with the integrity of the bars?
Run properly the external wiring for the front really isn't ugly looking.
And I don't see a way to run the wires internally without messing with the integrity of whatever bars you decide on. The wires on the bars go into two different points (right and left) to enter your headlight where eveyrthing is shoved in.

what a snake pit full of wires in the headlight shell
