I recently inherited my father in laws 1979 FLH. He was in the process of having the bike painted 10 years ago when he got sick, bike is running and everything is working as it should, it's now time to put all the painted parts back on, but it appears I am missing some things. I have both the service manual and parts catalog. The catalog has helped to determine the need parts, but neither the service manual or parts catalog include any directions on installing the gas tank, fenders, seat, saddle bag and tour pack, where do I find the appropriate manual? I am also having have trouble finding the correct length and routing of the gas tank vent line. (top of tanks t fitting) Any help with this is appreciated.

Doubt you will find much useful info in a book..
Start a thread on thes items individually is what I recommend..
ie Fuel Tank Vent line???? I never seen one... the tanks vent thru the right hand Filler cap... the crossover lines, top and bottom, go from one side directly to the other.. yes the top one can be a PITA
Mounting Fat Bobs is a lost art.. most simply tighten 'er down and go... Guaranteed Failure... Number one rule for Fat Bob Mounting is never put any "tab" in a bind... actually never use a fastener to align, move, put any tension on, anything... spacers and tab bending are Normal...
Good luck...
Thanks for the reply. I'll start here with the vent line. See the pic below from the service manual, I have circled the line in question
Oddly... I have never put a T in that line... never seen one either.. you must have a later publish date manual.....
Works just fine with one short line interconnecting the tanks... In fact my service manual has no such picture..
Found that Pic... Newer Parts manual... still wondering the "Why" of it tho...

Thanks for the reply. Next question is I have what appears to a "frame mounted buddy seat" see pic below. The research I have done shows the 1979 FLH came with the bear trap setup. I have no idea how the front of this seat mounts. It has two tabs in the front but nothing to attach them to. any ideas?
Number 23 is a Frame mount seat... the other appears to be an FLT seat... also frame mounted..
a bear trap looks like this
The curved part clamps to the Frame crossmember.. the leftmost mount bolts to rear fender, and the clevis looging Part [right top] is attached to the Pogo Stick...
the Fugly Seat bolts to the two flat plates...
BTW I never thought that the Comfort Flex [Beartrap] was ever anymore than an option???
But... IDK Maybe the Frame mount seat was the Option... I didn't care for "Garbage Barges" back then!!!!

When I look at the description # 23 is just a rain cover the actual seat is # 26. That is the current setup that I have, not the bear trap mount that you posted a picture of. This was obviously altered at some point , so I'l l get the rear fender mounted and see what I'm dealing with.

Never seen that seat frame mounted on a 4-speed... but, I ain't seen it all...
this
is a Comfort flex on a 4-speed FL
Do yerself a favor and just go with a Good ole Frame mount seat
either like this
or the SuperGlide style if you dont mount a Rear rack, nor Pizza box...They sit back farther...
