^^^ Yes...seems perfect...for having endured the Dumpster for so very long!!! LOL... Couldn't help the Dumpster reference...as so very many of them ended up there... Heavy darn things...and extremely desirable at this time...
Looks like a very nice example indeed...with a more than fair price too!!!!
Should already be gone....IMO

Would you mind sending a pix of the backside of the header pipes around where the crossover is, also is there a part number on the header?

I don't see a part number on the header pipe.

My original plan was to use this on a 81 Sturgis, but it seems that the staggered duals are correct for the 81.
Anybody know for sure?

My Brain keeps telling me the exhaust did Not change to staggered duals until 1982!!!!
But... I know precious little about the Sturgis Model... Much preferring the FXS '77 - '80 preferably!!

Of course the memory is the second thing to go!!!!
According to my Parts catalog..
Staggered duals for FXWG '80 - '83
Staggered duals for FXB, FXS and FXSB, '81 - '83
Nothing specific to the Sturgis really, tho... Unless the "FXSB" does not count the Late Low rider ie 1984!!! which is an FXSB

Info and pic from "100 years of Harley Davidson" by Willie G Davidson, published by Bullfinch Press (2002)

Info and pic from a 1981 HD sales brochure.

So parts book shows the 2-1 system available 1977-1983. The change however is in the muffler. The "slash cut" (#65353-80) to my understanding was last used on 79 models (book says 1980); HD then went to the "straight cut" (65430-80) as pictured in the above. The collector itself remained unchanged. And starting in 1980? HD also added chrome covers for the header pipes.

And according to the parts book the shorty dual exhaust was featured from 1980-1983, although the pic for the 1980 Sturgis still shows the 2-1.

I figure back then you could still get the 2-1 for the later models, but not sure why anyone would (back then) opt for that. At the time they were pretty restrictive and considered pretty damn ugly (why so many ended up being trashed).

Good info.
And to confuse it further - my slash cut muffler is stamped 65353-78.
