GAs Tank Venting
The gas cap on the right tank is different from the left tank. The caps are not interchangeable either, they have a different dept for latching. The one on the right looks to have a small ball in it - I assume it's vented. The left side does not have a vent in the cap.
So, I'm thinking the engine heated the tanks and expanded the gases and pushed through the needle. I'll pull the carb tomorrow and look inside - but any other ideas? A vented left side cap?
the carb is vented into the air filter all on its own has nothing to do with the gas tank and its venting
2 things - one cheap and easy leave the fuel off and start it up run it out of fuel - turn the gas on look for the hose to leak - turn it the petcock off again start it run it out of gas
each time you do that you flush out a debris in the float valve that WILL cause the carb to spill fuel - with a bike that is roadable -- I shut it off while riding at 50 mph turn off petcock when it runs out gas I hold throttle wide open and you pull everything into the engine -- turn the fuel back on -- most times once or twice fixes it as its only a grain of sand maybe
Older and Race modified Floats on S&S Carbs cannot deal with much head pressure at all..
If doing as John suggests has No effect.. Remove float hold in hand at level it is mounted at... turn on fuel... Does it stop the Flow when Full???
A Known "street" needle and seat may cure it..
Or... Just thought of this... What Air Cleaner???? It matters...

Will start with diagnosis tomorrow.
