Default Gas leaking out of left tank at cap

I have a problem with gas leaking out of my left hand gas tank on my 92 heritage softail if I fill it up and then park it. I have new stainless steel beauty rings around the mouth of the tanks with new caps.

I suspect that fuel is flowing back up from the float bowl into the tank and out the cap as there is debris under the float needle valve. Could also be gas cap gasket/o ring?

Our your caps one way vented in? Is the check valve in the vent line mounted vertical and in correct direction with a slight resistance going out?

The cap on the left isn't vented but the one on the right is, but I never thought about a check valve in the vent line, But if there was a check valve the gas could not get from the right tank to the left tank when needed. I don't think there is one.

Left is not vented, right side is.
If it’s leaking on the left side you’re over filling and you used the wrong rubber rings on the new caps.

I thought that I might be overfilling, I know if I remove the left side beauty ring and put the cap on it stops leaking. I read on place to fill the left tank first then put the cap on the fill the right side, does it really matter or do you think am I just over filling. Do you know if anyone sells a little bit longer caps?

I fill the left side, then top off the right side until the gas is at the bottom of the left bung.
This way I know when the bike is parked it's not higher than the left bung hole.
Now watch the childishness that is about to start.
