Wiring starter solenoid backwards?

Monday I'll grab another battery and order a solenoid.
'Why?' I asked
I pulled the solenoid apart and see that there's a solid copper wire that runs from the starter terminal into the coil along with the 12v wire from the relay, what the hell is this copper wire doing in this style design solenoid?
I only care because I like to know how things work

Funny thing too, when I grabbed the solenoid from the bench for installation I noticed one stud was longer than the other and thought "hmmm, why is one stud shorter than the other" Lol... I learned my lesson.
Short stud = starter
long = battery
That I will never forget after this $250 mistake.
Aye, what ya'll think of Yuasa batteries? I ended up ordering one of them for $140 from J&P along with a new ACCEL solenoid. (I hear good talk about ACCEL) it was either a $30 solenoid or a $70 solenoid, the difference in price must mean something.

no Accel for me for the last decade at least... Yuasa can be OK..But...if it says "made in Taiwan" on the battery... may last a day of rough service use...
if it says "made in Japan" on it... Maybe a Week!! If it says "made in USA" on it... look for a solid year of rough [ab]use...
and Cycle Electric is good ****!!!!
