Default 1972 Shovelhead vin help

Hi from Australia. I have a 1972 Shovelhead that i have owned for a couple of decades. I have never given the vin a 2nd thought as its always passed registration and both numbers on the frame and motor match. The thing i'm trying to find out is what in the hell they mean and if they were done by law enforcement or if AMF done some weird and funky stuff in the early 1970's. Any way i will post a pic of the one on the motor that begins with 55G and is only 7 characters long unlike the common layout used between 1970 to 1980 as far as im aware. I will take one the steering head asap but vin on the frame is identical. The only difference is that there is not a raised rectangular casting boss, the vin is directly on the rhs of the steering head curve where the casting boss would be. The registration papers have it listed as built on the 6th month of 1972 but how they figured that bit out is a mystery to me. Any info would be very much appreciated.

How the hell do I edit or delete post. I have found out the information i was after and accidentally supplied some misinformation. This format is frustrating, not being able to edit the initial query but I can with my own replies is f'n strange and is a **** format in my opinion, who was the genius that left out the edit tab. Great stuff. Anyway clearly i need to do some more digging to get to the bottom of the rabbit hole re my vin. I have fount out everything I wanted to know except why or who done it, if it was a HD dealership or AMF or some bloke with a set of vin punches....

The edit option goes away after a short time to prevent people from retracting what they said. Its happened in the past in other sections, particularly the M8 section when you could edit indefinitely.

If you want you can contact a moderator to make a change.

you owned it decades and put the incorrect info in your first post

and because the site does not have ( hey I effed up button ) this site sucks

what it does have is a waiting period for newbeees to flush out undesirables who post up nonsense - it does not appear you did

if you had hung around and read into the quality of the site classic section - you would have under stood an explain of the effup is all that was required

no harm no foul kind of thing -- maybe start over but looking at mutable sites for answers and comparing them against each other is a mistake - as well

Lol, ive owned it for 2 decades champ, i see you have never made a mistake?. The information was actually on a post that preceded this one but looks as if admin did delete it for me.. And yes it was misinformation i put down from memory but when i double checked i realized i was incorrect. But as i have noticed it was in a previous thread replaced by this one. As clearly i am new to this format im still figuring it out and can have a differing opinion re the edit button than you.
