hi guys was working on my 79 fxs today i removed the push rods ,lifters and blocks and then the cam cover to check if the bike was running a plastic breather gear ( its not) but my 2 year old got into the workshop when i went into the house for a beer and shes pulled the bloody cam out,, any hints tips on how to set everything back up would be very appreciated ,
the crank shaft gear at the bottom has a timing mark dash line turn the lower gear till its at 12 oclock - the camshaft has 2 timing a dash line mark the one will be at 6 oclock to dash line with the bottom gear - then the breather gear off to your left pull it out and set it to the other alignment dash to dash - and your done with timing - the breather has a spacer - the camshaft has a spacer and a stay slinger - you cant put it back together with out all of it
i dont have pictures of what you need to re assemble
The only advice I have is get the kid their own bike, taking out a cam at 2 years old is impressive. They may be the child that the prophecy foretold would redeem the millennials for their twin cam sins.
Here's what is behind the cam, there is a shim washer under the tabbed one:
Here are the timing marks, your breather may have a more prominent mark than mine:
I got my daughter an erector set when she was little, she would play with it in the garage when I was working there. Now she's pretty handy around her own house, and her husband does the cooking. Gotta encourage your kids!
