I have been reading and watching this thread. I had a very similar problem. My Indy was scratching his I am thinking you do not have a short but lost your ground somehow, if you had a short you would be smoking wires?
head on my problem and drew up a circuit to bypass everything except for the starting circuit but had me ground it directly to the battery. It worked. He then deduced that I had a bad ground. So I put every thing back and ran a ground wire from the starter case to the battery. And I cleaned up the strap cable ground and connections all is good now and I have left the ground wire on the starter. To make sure that circuit works. I now it sounds corny but you could try something like this.
now why you turn signals don’t work I have no clue. Also my battery was good.
I dont think its the ignition circuit breaker thats tripping. The ignition breaker is fed by a brown wire. The lighting circuit breaker is fed by the yellow wire. If the breaker with the yellow wire is the one thats tripping remove the yellow wire from the breaker turn the key on and it shouldnt trip. Then you can trace it from there
When the bike fell off the jack without the shocks on any chance the rear tire came up and contacted the wire harness that feeds the taillight? Could have bent one of the clips that hold the harness in place into the harness. Could be hard to see
I think he has narrowed it down to the key switch on the left side of the frame and 1 of the wires attached to the ignition switch is shorted, seems he looking at the yellow wire. A lot odf stuff packed in a tight space between the oil tank and the frame
May be easiest to remove the mount hardware and gently pull the switch out to see the wires attached to the back.

he did mention the ign switch too.i pulled the switch and the 3 wires are connected. what i did do was disconect the thick yellow wire from the breaker and clicking stopped but when i reconnected clicking returned.i cant wait for him to solve the problem im ancious to find out what it is. he said it sounds like when the bike fell its crushed a wire. thats the only thing that has happened since i last rode it
where does the single pink wire on the ign breaker go to ive so far traced it thru the harness under the tank that is the offending wire when its disconnected i have ignition and dash lights.i did find someone had roughly soldered in a 2inch section of wire on that wire where the harness is above and behind the coil and when i stripped the insulation tape around the harness that wire was all kinked up where it it joined.should that wire have power when not connected with ign on thanks
john lee, my HD manual has the wiring diagram but is at my weekend home. Going there to see a new grandson tomorrow, will bring manual back with me to share a pic if you have no other responses before

What year bike are you working on? My 78 1/2-84 FX/FL manual doesn't show pink wires on any of the breakers, just grey and white on the ignition breaker, orange on the accessory, and blue and green on the lights breaker. The main feed from the battery to the ignition switch is red, could it be faded? Also, some aftermarket ignitions use pink for the tach wire, but that shouldn't be hot.
