Thanks, guys! I took some time off to work on other projects, etc. The shop says my motor will be done today! I have a question on painting the cylinders and tappet blocks. I think the blocks are natural, is that right? The cylinders are black, but what black? Gloss, satin, texture? Thanks, Joe

The '82 and '83 FXRS as well as the '83 FLHT, Lifter blocks, are what looks like H-D Texture Black. Cylinders were probably that also... but, did Not hold Color well...All I see are nearly Burnt off..
If I were to do Cylinders. I would use VHT with No Heat.. seems to give a Smoother texture... akin to the Texture Black.
My 83 had textured black cylinders. I buy the Harley black texture from the dealer and at first I thought it was complete crap when I did my 82 WG but once its cured its great, just takes a while and I ended up putting the cases in the BBQ to bake them as per the instructions. Its a very fine texture and very durable. I would buy it again.

But... You are Not trying to put together a Graded Restoration (AMCA... etc)
An AMCA judge posted on their forum that the tappet blocks were high temp silver. The machinist at the shop said the same. Maybe FXR is different than FXRS? I'm thinking I should listen to the judge?
