My new stand came in so I spent the last couple days truing the wheels. It took about three hours each, but I got within .010" radial and lateral runout on both. Dropped them off at the bike shop and they will have fresh Dunlop D402s mounted Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Then it'll be a roller!

Mounting your own tire is so easy, why didn't you do it yourself?

Truing is labor intensive, but very satisfying and easier with the proper tools.

Shouldn't take more than an hour labor to lace and true a wheel.

One of my brothers also asked why I don't mount and balance my own tires. The shop that I use charges less for tires than the online price, so the mounting and balancing is practically free. Besides, I pinched the tube when I did it in the past.

You have a great set up to true a wheel. I have the same static balancer.

Only thing I disagree with is taking all that time to true a wheel without a tire. Mounting a tire can stress a spoked rim just a hair in some cases.

I've got to true the front wheel of my Shovel after I catch up on some other projects, and when I do the tire will be on the rim.

The problem with that is if a spoke pokes thru the nipple you can't see it, and it'll eventually wear thru the rim strip and tube.

Got my tires today, mounted the rotors and installed the front wheel:

Back wheel will be tomorrow's job.
