Hi Joe,
gotta question for you, concerning the S&S oil pump, did the previous owner drill the cases with a S&S oil pump jig to fit the shovel engine ? i mean if they did would a stock oil pump still work ? ahhh wait a minute . . . these pix answer my own question . . . carry on !!
just wanted to make sure your OEM pump would still work, no worries the S&S would have worked without modifications to your 82 cases . . . but wait your oem oil pump is 1980 . . . will it work with an 81 to 99 oil pump system ?!?! . . .

Thanks for the tip, will heat it up as the instructions say.
I wonder if I can add a fake chain oiler? Parts catalog shows 63614-72 needed.
Great job Joe. I just checked my service manual after you mentioned rear chain oiler because my 83 doesn't have one. I just learned that it is specific to the 82 only. If you were to add a fake oiler wouldn't you have to add a fake adjusting screw?
On the older bikes, the chain oiler can be turned off by turning the adjustment screw all the way down (removing spacers). Maybe you could install to be correct but just turn it off to avoid the mess. Carry on.
Since the oil pump cover I have still has provisions for the oiler tube and adjusting screw, I was thinking of drilling them and installing the parts. The one big unknown is how to prevent oil from leaking by a home made adjusting valve seat. I am thinking I can cut off the pointy end of the screw and just drill and tap part way into the cover. Same thing for the hose port - install a solid rod and slip the hose over that.
yeah i have mine adjusted right in .... i thought, you beauty i'll oil me chain..... i rode to old mates house and the my 82 flh left its mark on his brand new stenciled driveway...oops

So that brings up the question, where does the hose go after the oil pump? Can you post or send me a picture? Thanks
That chain oiler is identical to what is on my 1946 Flathead. You put washers/shims under the head to adjust the oil flow. If you remove all of the washers, the needle will seat and no oil will flow.
