Joe get me the part number for that outer primary cover I may have a clean one I'll be happy to contribute to the build if it matches up. Know it's early FXR just can't remember if it was off my shovel or later 80's.
Well crap, pulled that cover down and it's later model, has the small starter bushing. # 60672-98, think its off a FLT now I'm looking at it.
Wouldn't be a problem from an FLT... If (Large Word), if it was for Early Primary... generally identified by the Shape of the Inspection cover.. til?? like '94 then, may be different again??
Later Model certainly... again the early ones had a "concave, concave" inspection cover... later is that "concave, convex" one shown.
BTW, Do you have a 4-speed, Shovel Inner, without E-start hole(s)??

Installed the pushrods today. I was waiting for new covers, but what came in was only the top setup. Lucky my FXS is apart and the lower tubes on that one are in pretty good shape. I learned there is a difference in diameter between the ones with steel upper tubes and aluminum, can't mix them.
As my other post said, I adjust one valve when it's mate on the other cylinder is fully open, then rotate the motor and do the next. Much easier when doing it alone. Even easier if there is a kickstarter, lol.

Earlier, I cleaned up the original exhaust pipes that came with the bike. The chrome under the heat shields is blue and has rust spots, but the part you see isn't bad. I have new heat shields and mufflers that will dress it up nicely. I would have installed them tonight but my tube of Ultra Black RTV was dried up. Maybe next winter I'll have them re-chromed.
I have these special washers for the exhaust bolts that claim won't come loose. Not correct but a worthy improvement.
Unless something goes wrong, I will start it up tomorrow! Hopefully go for a ride too.
