Just know no one gets 100% if that happens then everyone wants 100% no matter how bad it is

doing a double in the first judging is rare - they liked it - and they will find other stuff as you move along

they got me once for a out of the box new seat in a restored class 1/2 point off

another time the vinyl on the seat was from the wrong period in history 1/4 point off

its the game everyone knows they play to keep the real judging from becoming out of control - it becomes a laughing thing between the builders

That's going to be garage art until I find the rest of the bike, haha. I am building a new house with a big garage and workshop so will need things on the wall.

Sort of, I have two old Harley Davidson golf carts that will be made into one for getting the mail and carrying the cooler to the dock at my new house. After that I have a 1972 Ironhead Sportster that I will make into a Then Came Bronson tribute bike. I have been collecting the unique parts for a while.

I may just keep this one in the new house! There is a room in the back, off the porch and kitchen that needs something special.

Thanks, I was not nervous but high anxiety was how I felt. The judges started out by complementing me on how good it looked and where did I find one with only 50 miles? I had to remind them it was a restoration not original, and they were NOS instruments. That made me feel like it was going to be a good experience.

Again, I thank all of you who followed along and offered advice.

Here are a few pictures of the last minute thrash that I didn't have time to post. The ham can backing plate is attached to the motor by three big brackets. One to each rocker box and one to the middle crankcase bolt. I assembled it three times to get everything lined up right and the bolts loctited. The three bolts to the carb are supposed to be drilled hex head bolts, but allen heads are easier to drill.

I wound up buying three ham cans to get one in excellent condition. The washers behind the mounting screws have rubber ones behind them. I had to trim hardware store rubber washers to match.

The timing seemed good, so I did pop-rivet the cover in place.

The VIN and GVWR sticker is reproduced by Rick's decals but he doesn't type your info on it. My mother still had this electric typewriter from when she was working, and it did the trick. I had to go over what I typed 5 or 6 times, but it came out OK. Font isn't correct but the judges didn't seem to notice or mind.

I try to put my tools away every night or two, but this is what my workbench looked like Friday night!

I'll be taking a break from this for a while, had put a lot of things on the back burner that need doing.

I have two bikes in my office, same reason. In the house is a great idea.

I'm back! Lots of things got done around the house and the work bench cleaned up, haha.

I fixed the two easiest deductions. The new HD spark plug wires came in yesterday, that was half a point:

One quarter point for moving the throttle cable clamp to the tank from the triple tree.

I'm not going to get to the charging system for a while, probably a winter project, something to do in the new house.

IDK why I neglected to update this thread the past few years, but here are the most significant items:

July 2023, I brought the bike up to Greenfield Mass for this year's Yankee Chapter AMCA meet. The judges awarded me the Senior Award (97.75 points) but did find more things for me to correct. They were a bit more knowledgeable this time, not just a few pictures from the internet. Still a good time, and something to work on. I have to pull the primary apart and figure out the alternator wiring.

July 2024 I got the Winner's Circle. I had fixed almost everything they asked for last time, but they said they couldn't give me 100 points, LOL. So I pointed out a couple things (like the carb mixture plug mising) and got 99.25 points. I'm happy with that. If I wanted to continue to Marque Excellence I would qualify. I also replaced the alternator with a Cycle Engineering unit.

Today's update:
The following ad will soon appear in the AMCA magazine. I want you to see it first:

My first Harley was an '82 Lowrider, I was rear ended with less than 3,00o miles. I still have the commemorative front fender badge.
