Finally got my first Shovel. It's 1979 FXEF. I would say it's in a good condition. Was able to ride back home It's so different compared to Evo and TwinCam. Already reading all information I could find about it. I started some maintenance. I'm cleaning the oil tank and replacing rubber hoses. Next will be brake lines.
I noticed one strange issue. A shifter pedal doesn't sit all the way on a shaft. I checked internal side of the primary and pushed the shaft just to make sure there is no any slack. Still it looks like the shaft is short. I'm curious maybe it's not original shaft or shifter is too wide.
The spacer does not look correct to be behind the shifter and the shifter looks evo to me - i am not versed on the nuances of model changes year to year but the lever look correct from the back that leaves the other stuff
good luck on your new addition -0- and NO one cares you own a Twinkie BTW
Also I found there were two versions of the shaft in 1979: OEM 34574-74 Shaft length 5 1/2" or OEM # 34574-79 Shaft length 5 3/4"
Good spot on this. Looks like the change came when they went to the cowpie tranny (as suggested by Uncle Larry) in late 1979. It would be interesting to see the two side-by-side to get a visual of the difference.
