I have been trying to find a clamp that will fit the 4" dia. mufflers (see pic) the PO put on. I want to connect them to the extension bar the way it is supposed to be but the largest support clamp I can find is 3-1/4". Aside from getting the correct mufflers is there a solution besides hanging them off the saddlebag frame? From what I can tell from the part #65538-95A these are from 1996 and later bikes
These are stock style replacements on my 72 FLH. They are of good quality but certainly not as good as the originals.
Just a note - I knocked out the center plugs, both front and back, to get a little more sound. Even with the plugs out, they are still pretty quiet. Not what I expected. With the plugs in place, they were dead quiet. Just my 2 cents.
Yes. They are spot welded I believe. I just used a 1" steel bar I had laying around and knocked them out by holding the bar upright and sliding the muffler down to tap them out. It was simple and the improvement in sound was great. If you look in each end, you'll see the plugs. They simply divert the exhaust through the baffles.

Thanks for the compliment.
I am 69, have osteoarthritis pretty bad, and don't do much riding anymore. I recently sold my Indian Roadmaster. Terrific bike, but my long distance touring days are over. The '72 still gets some exercise at least once a month, though. She's got 28K on the clock, motor never opened up, all stock except for consumables like tires, oil lines etc. And for 55 mph cruising, she always delivers. Paint is original 'sparkling burgundy' and still polishes up nice.
BTW, when I got her, she had 4" late model fishtails. What a mess. Sounded terrible, and didn't fit at all. You'll like the original style pipes. Look right, fit right, and sound right (with a little tweeking).
Best-
Mike.
