Forgive this question and more to follow. I bought a set of 78’ superglide mags along with the front end. The front mag is a dual disk set up. I have to find a set of dual calipers. Can i use modern hand controls off of a dyna? I want modern switches and bigger buttons. Will the modern master cylinder work with the older calipers?
I was looking into doing the same thing a while back. The guys here will correct me if I'm wrong. What I figured out was, as a rule of thumb with stock components, the size of the master cylinder BORE is what's important. There is a 'larger' bore that is for the duel disc front end and the 'smaller' bore is for the single disc. When I started looking at custom manufacturers components I started seeing some variables
the twin disc 35mm front end for a mid 70's Shovelhead will only take the stock single piston calipers unless you get a fitting kit (hard to find now days!) & fit either GMA, Performance Machine or even Tokico & Nisin calipers.
i have just fitted a set of GMA calipers to mine, two 4 pot calipers with a 2016 11/16 road king master cylinder & steel hoses & it stops on a penny with great lever feel & feedback.

I have two old style Harley Push switches, one for Horn one for magneto kill,
& an old style change over switch for Hi & Lo, I like these old style switches as they are small, tough & wiring is easily hidden, always a good thing.
Starter button is on the dash marked 'Rocket Launcher' for *****
,
The main key switch handles lights on/off, Being in England, we are NOT forced to have turn signals so didn't need to bother with any of that ****,
The Clutch lever is a later Harley cable type but I did have a Hydraulic Clutch on it at one time & I used a master cylinder off of a V-Rod with the later levers for that,

Note... Harley always seemed to use a 1/4 at least, larger bore than optimum... IMO
Large bore master = more lever pressure required... and of course smaller bore master cylinders= that two finger control Bragged about by those who are accustomed to metric brake systems.. I have personally experimented with 5/8 master with old (Shovelhead type)dual disc
for me... 11/16 has been best..
on the "will newer parts work"
Absolutely.. show what yer trying to accomplish, or Mix N Match
None of it insurmountable...
