? I bought it for the Kehin carb that I just installed but the snorkel hits the pushrod tubes on the rear cylinder. The air intake is also really close to the rear header pipe.
If it is not something that anyone would need, I'm going to cut the snorkel off and use it until I find the correct one. If it fits something unique I will save it and trade it for something I can use. I suspect it is for something older than the '76 carb and '79 FLH I am trying to use it on, but that is just a guess.
"Pig Snout" backing plate. Used on FX and Sportster models from 1977 to Early 1978. It was MoCos attempt to appease all the folks running around with their panties bunched and complaining about emisson problems. Normally the lower piece is not bent outward. Prior to 1977 the backing plate just followed the contour lines of the chrome-plated steel oval cover. It appears that one may have been modified for some reason because the scoop on the bottom is intended to act as an air intake.
On a Shovel model it looked like this when mounted
In mid '78 MoCo went to the Ham-Can set up

Thanks Panz,
I though I was getting the Pig Snout backing plate for my bike but this one has the snorkel facing the rear, other than that everything seems to fit.
It doesn't sound like it's a valuable part so I will just modify it to work. This is the last piece to getting my S&S swapped out to the Kehin
