I pulled the top end off yesterday afternoon and it looks very good on the inside. No scars on the cylinder walls, burned pistons or valves. The biggest issue so far is stripped threads in some of the bolt holes. (Coil mount, inner primary) and chezzy dress up nuts and bolts. Nothing we haven't seen before. There is actually chrome under the oil and dirt from sitting so many years.

I agree that a restoration (as per AMCA etc) is Cost Prohibitive...and Since it can Only be a Survivor once.. (this Aint)
I personally would Go "Period Correct" and have a very nice finished product.. Even that front end, is in Fact, Period Correct... tho I saw mostly on Sportsters.. oddly...
The rocker boxes were modded and they never worked correctly using Allen’s - the original studs were stretch studs as the engine got hot they held the same torque as cold - the Allen’s are not going to do that
we sell them off on flea bay and replace with the original covers and studs - but maybe you have the only one that does not leak when hot
Fraid the dirty girl would have gotten cosy with my pressure washer before I put a wrench to it, either gotten lazy or smarter in my golden years, me and crude just don't get along anymore.

oh really sunny boy - maybe you should learn before typing - today head bolts so they sell thousands are a one time use - oh thats right they also stretch with temps

Yup they were by design made that way, shovel engine will swell almost .100" when hot. Why guys alway roached the rocker box gaskets going gorilla when cold tightening then as the engine heats up spitting the paper gaskets out as the torque increased exponentially. had to learn that one the hard way myself, worse case they warp the rocker box boss the nut seats on or pull the threads out of the head end.
Evo motors used the same principle from the cases up with the long studs, remember all the weeping base gaskets and pulled stud problems they had ?
