Picked up this winter project this fall. 1979 Low Rider that had been in storage in a conex for the last 7 years.
Big surprise, it wouldn't start, Found the only problem was a bad coil. Since no one in Alaska carries parts for shovels I got one online. After doing general maintenance (fluid change, timing and such), and replacing the coil, and a new battery it fired right up. Cleaned it up and rode it till the snow flied in here in Alaska (8 months of winter arrived).
Now for the winter project. Going through the motor, and transmission to freshen stuff up. Putting on a FL style front end, spoke wheels, new custom paint job, and whatever else comes up in the course of going through everything. Been stocking up on needed parts but run into "out-of-stock" messages a lot. No one in Alaska carries shovel parts so online and out of state contacts are what I get to deal with. Posting more as this moves along.
Engine rebuild is done. Found plenty of messed up stuff and incorrectly done things. Piston rings not installed correctly, rocker shaft shims in wrong. Also did lots of cleanup. All good now. Next comes the custom paint work. I'm doing gray with ghost flames.
I don't think I've left any of my bikes stock in over 35 years. Pretty much take them apart and put together what I want. This one already seemed to be headed in the right direction but has a ways to go (:
A bunch of my new front end parts showed up yesterday. Good by FXS front end and hello FLST front end along with new controls and such. FLST front end to replace FXS front end
Hey, got this Ultima front brake caliper & bracket to go on this FLST front end but no mounting hardware (Nuts & Bolts). Anyone have an idea if shoulder bolts or whatever kind of hardware is used with this caliper?
