I have seen inner primary chrome covers that are placed on top of the inner primary outer surface. Those dont always fit well and they are like a tin shield over the outside. Is it possible you have a chrome beauty cover over your inner primary?
Good thinking, but I've just been in the garage, and as far as I can see, there is no cover.
I'll get a better idea when I eventually take the inner chain case off. I was going to do it at the
weekend as the weather not too good, but apparently the weather will be nice, so I'll go for ride before
fixing the leak on the gearbox.
🙂🙂🙂

Just a thought - here is a picture of Troy's low miles 1985 Evo FXSB, and it has the same raised lip:

Ah yes, I think mine has one because it has a belt final drive conversion.
Still can't do much about it, unless I convert to chain and find another chain case. Which would be too expensive ATM.
Thanks for the picture. It looks better in Aluminium.

Don't worry about it, I've seen the fit between cases and primary covers all the over the spectrum. Everything fits and works correctly with no leaks run with it.

Yes, I'm resigned to putting up with it now, but it still comes to the forefront that it looks bloody awful.
Maybe I'm just being too fussy.😁😁😁

Could be worse, some of the chromed aftermarket stuff back when was a crime it was so bad. Ever run across anything with the name Lifeline it's pure junk, avoid it.

I recognise the X30-00085 number... its the stock Harley inner primary for the Sturgis and FXDG model (bikes that came stock with a belt primary).
My FXDG also has the large offset between primary and motor, its so bad the clear plug wont screw into the hole in the crankcase to set the timing. But the bike rides fine so I am not worried.

Yes, it's annoying, but just have to accept it the way it is.
I'm trying not to think about it, which is difficult. 🙂🙂🙂.
But as I'm riding, all the cares in the world disappear.😁😁😁😁
