Default Identifying charging system

Hello All, Still pretty new here. Been looking around for a thread to figure out how to I.D. the charging system on a 1975 FLH. I know it was upgraded but , don't know to what? According to my brother it was for a 1980 80" FLH , not sure of the amp rating. The stator is a two pin female at the case and male at the reg./rect. harness. I see all kind of ways to check the stator but , have not figured a way to bench test the reg./rect. assy. ! Since I have the primary torn down I was trying to address the charging system. Debating on replacing or upgrading since the bike has been sitting since the mid 90's. ANY IDEAS OR INPUT FROM SOME OF YOU GRAY BEARDS OUT THERE? Thanx in advance for any of your help! Tommy

If you think its oem and don't have any manuals you could try googling Carl Salter manuals check under Harley Davidson. You can look at the manuals or download them for free and compare what you have.

Haven't figured out the posing pics yet! Tech challenged old fart! LOL Definitely not triangle, same shape as the case opening for the stator plug , kind of oval shaped.

Regulator plug look like the two pins on the left in the picture or the three in the middle ones ? Left is the late shovel 22amp charging system, the middle is the later 32amp upgrade setup.

Bingo , the two on the left are exactly like my regulator plug. Now al I have to do is dig out my multi-tester and figure out where to go from there.

The ones on the left are what was O.E.M. from mid 1970's to somewhere in the early 1980's. My 1984 O.E.M. is the opposite. That gives you the era. You don't need super high amperage. Cycle Electric is my go to brand. I hear rotors are pretty hard to find across the board. I put a used Cycle Electric Regulator / Rectifier and Stator from a 22 amp system (from my 1984) along with a stock rotor (1977) from a 16 amp system and it has worked just fine. As long as the Regulator and stator plugs match up is what you want more than anything; a 1980 FLH doesn't need more than 22 amps.
