Been fighting to get this oil pump together for a few weeks. No matter how much patience I practice, I couldn't get the outer gear on. It kept pushing the key out. Finally, out of curiosity, I had a thought to check something out. Grabbed an extra shaft I had and the gear went on easy as could be. The grooves in the shaft that was installed in the motor were too shallow. Wouldn't allow the key down far enough. Both shafts are brand new. One I ordered separately because I didn't know if the pump I ordered came with one, it did. This is a new one for me.
After I swapped shafts out I had the oil pump together in 30 minutes.
Anybody else ever run into this 'bad shaft' issue?
Today its almost every day you fine a incompetent job done on something - i have a pinion shaft in a set of flywheels that the set screw thread in the end is not metric or USA we think it could be wentworth or who knows what they did - but no way to measure it
