Kicker Conversion. 1980 FLHS. Grrrrr!
Ok, I ran into a problem with this kicker add to my 1980 FLHS.
Everything I have seen shows a separate kicker stop bracket held on with two screws... When I open it up, I see a kicker stop integrated into the bearing retainer... Ok, no big deal... But the kicker doesn't clock to 90°... Under the bearing retainer, there are no holes to attach the kicker stop bracket...
I guess I'll shorten the stop on the original bearing retainer. I see the earlier bearing retainers don't have an integral kicker stop.
Parts are:
S&S cover, Baker gears and a Jim's normal length kicker shaft.
It's interesting that the countershaft is held in place by the main bearing retainer... It fits in a slot in the shaft. Also, the oil hole into the main gear box is higher than in the earlier transmissions.
Thoughts?
ADDENDUM: OK, I figured something out... The instructions Baker has for clocking the gear is wrong for this setup. Once I figured that out, it all works -- but the kicker lever is still out a bit... I will have to shorten the stop a little bit. Going by the instructions, I guess the pin wasn't on the stop or something. Anyway. it's not just bolt in.

we use another may tag bracket and bolt to till we get what we want in the kicker stand up then weld it In place
It's strange that I haven't run into this rotary top issue online... It's obvious now that you point it out.
The crappy kicker kits (that include the ratchet-top stops only) are for "1937 to 1986"... You'd figure after so many years they would update it. I originally bought one of those shi*ty kits and it took 15 seconds to discover how terrible it was.
