Default 44007-80 and rubber brake hose collapsing inside questions

Replacing square cut seal part 44007-80 for the Late 1980 and up front caliper piston. Purchased Drag Specialties KIt
DS-530479 and wondering if anybody has used the drag square cut seal in rebuilding banana caliper.

Also would like to know if anyway to rule out an original front brake rubber line collapsing from the inside lining and not letting brake fluid pressure return to the handlebar master and yes I got squirted in the eye checking out the pinhole compensating port at the bottom of the reservoir.

With new Dot 5 fluid and a flush of the old brake fluid had ridden some 1200 miles since going through my new to me 1980 Flh before piston failed to return ( not positive) but had to rock the bike to and fro to release front wheel and limp home.

Would a new old stock replacement rubber line DOT approved rubber hose be fine after some time on a vendors shelf as I assume these are no longer being produced? FWIW I spent the coin and replaced rear line and have had no issues since that repair/rebuild.

Trying to preserve old iron as the current caretaker. Appreciate all help and experienced wisdom here.

It is possible for a brake hose to have a problem in the inner liner to develop a crack ( chaffing ) that can act as a check valve letting fluid flow from the master but restricting the fluid from returning ... I've had this happen several times over the years in automotive applications ... I'd be comfortable with a NOS that hasn't been exposed to outside environment ... I have rebuilt the banana calipers a few times with HD OEM parts, never Drag ... Hope this helps

Uncle Larry, just found and bought an NOS Genuine HD square cut seal. Nothing like genuine parts from the Moco on their machines.

Larry got the PM's can't thank you enough. Old Shovel Flh Classic everything I had read about and has furthered my education for sure.
Back when I bought the Evo 1990 Flhs seasoned riders told me I if buying a Troublehead would always be breaking down and couldn't keep up with newer Harleys. Always felt like stay away from the Forbidden Fruit.

Old rubber break hoses from the factory have an expirary date, they are a sevice item and do not last forever,... change them before their expirary date ,... its what it is there for,.... apart from that, Banana calipers are crap and concidering the weight of the bike need to be thrown away and replaced with piston calipers of not 1 x piston calipers like the banana but with 4 x piston calipers and upgrade to a modern master cylinder,.... obviously this is if you want a rider rather than a bog stock trailer queen that must be rivet correct,....
I ride my bikes so an up-grade is the way to go....

You'd be amazed at the stopping power upgraded front calipers can do for that front end ... I did a swap for a buddy ( many years ago ) on a Sportster ... Performance Machine parts and it was incredible

I wouldn't use a NOS rubber brake hose, I would put a new braided one on...and also upgrade the calipers, had a banana caliper on my Ironhead, had the stopping power of a banana too.
